About the Artist - Jerry Van Leer
Jerry Van Leer has been drawing pretty much since he was able to hold a pencil. He's never had any formal
training...it's just something he's always been able to do. When Jerry was growing up, his
parents would buy him Norman Rockwell books and a drawing pad each Christmas. He'd spend the following year
redrawing each of Rockwell's paintings in pencil. That's the basis for his technique which has developed into what it is today.
Jerry has also drawn extensively in pen and ink and in pastels through the years.
He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, mostly at Little Rock AFB in Arkansas. There he became an aircraft mechanic and moved quickly through the ranks.
After the Air Force he held several jobs and started a couple of businesses in the St. Louis area. He then decided to teach himself computer programming, which he still does today.
All this time Jerry continued his drawing, doing projects either for himself or for others.
Van Leer Illustrated, Inc. was started in 2002 with the intent to reproduce Jerry's drawings and sell them as prints, postcards, etc.
Jerry's had several businesses through the years but those were just to pay the bills! He's now focused on creating more and more drawings
for reproduction and for commissions.
As always, Jerry will just keep on drawing. Hope you like what you see!
